Volunteer Food Reallocation Driver Questions and Answers

All drivers must be 18-years-old or older, have a valid driver’s license and car insurance, and complete the online Servsafe Food Handler course for California. We will provide you with all of the food reallocation and safety supplies that you will need.

If needed, we are able to reimburse gas for our volunteer drivers up to $30 weekly depending upon the driving schedule.

A food pickup usually takes 2-4 hours of your time, depending upon traffic and the timing of the food donor.

We reallocate food 24/7 and need volunteers 365 days a year. Once a week, once a month, on the weekends, or every so often is helpful to our efforts. Simply sign up to volunteer and we will add you to our weekly registration email. If you are interested in volunteering for the following week- reply to the email with your availability and we will put you on the schedule!

Yes! A veteran reallocator will train you on your first day, providing you with the supplies you will need and skills to help redistribute food daily.

Our team will supply you with an email, sent daily, providing all of the information you will need for both pickup and drop off.

Closed toed shoes, comfortable and professional clothing, and protection against California’s daily elements (heat, cold, rain, etc). Make sure to always have a bottle of water with you, your cell phone with a car charger, and your EDA safety vest with an alarm (which you will be given on your first day).

Basic email and phone communication skills, weighing and counting the food after it has been picked up- further sending the report to Every Day Action when back home, photographing the food or drop off & including the photos in the email exchange, and a want to improve the Los Angeles community daily. All weighing supplies will be provided by Every Day Action.

Yes, as long as they remain in the vehicle during the pickup from the donor and to the beneficiary if requested and follow all health and safety rules. All legal responsibility for minors and their actions while volunteering is of the parent or guardian. No one under the age of 18 will be allowed to volunteer without a parent or guardian present.

Unfortunately, while we love our furry friends, they are not able to accompany any driver due to food, health, and safety regulations.
